Project Categories

The MAKE program is supporting different categories of projects with different pedagogical objectives. The aim is to maximize the use of the infrastructure available to support the student community in learning through practical projects. Discover the project categories here under:

Project focusing on training students

The category of projects that are the main priority of the MAKE program. These projects are strongly linked with the educational programs of EPFL and support the students in their learning journey as engineers.

Credited

Projects which are part of an EPFL course or supported by an EPFL Professor (semester projects) and allow students to learn how to build rapid prototypes.

MAKE for EDU

Projects involving large groups of students (30 to 100+ team members) with students from different sections working on challenging prototyping and complex team organisation.

MAKE for society

These projects are focusing on adressing societal issues requiring a systemic understanding of the problem.

Projects focusing on entrepreneurship

The MAKE program is supporting entrepreneurial projects during their the early phases. Students that need to build a first proof of concept of their idea to test it can benefit from the MAKE network to do so

Entrepreneurial

Entrepreneurial projects supported by EPFL through official programs for student entrepreneurship (VPII) or successful companies born from MAKE projects.

How we build new projects ?

The embryo category aims at supporting small groups of students with a project idea in mind. The objective is to build up quality projects that can become later educational projects (MAKE) or entrepreneurial projects (VPII).

Embryo

The embryo category supports small groups of students (5-10) with an idea. Embryo projects can grow to become futur MAKE projects (educational) or entrepreneurial projects.

Other

Other types of projects are also supported by the MAKE program (when time and resources permits). Associations recognized by EPFL with a prototyping project in mind can (under some conditions) benefit from the makerspaces. The MAKE program also supports a wide variety of outreach activities targeting a wider audience.

Associative

These practical projects are related to the activity of an EPFL recognized student association. Discover prototyping while having fun and contributing to the community.

Outreach

The MAKE program supports a wide variety of outreach activities at EPFL. Making the science is great, but disseminating it to society is important as well.
