Outreach Projects

Makerspaces are areas designed for students to work on their educational projects. However, when time and resources permit, they can also host outreach projects. Whether the event is a science outreach activity, a prototype showcase or a workshop for the general public, makerspaces are the ideal venue.

Learning opportunities

Each outreach project is different and will offer different learning opportunities. Learning outcomes can also vary substantially depending on the student's level of involvement, whether as an organizer or a participant. However, most outreach projects tend to offer the following learning opportunities:

  • Science communication – conveying complex ideas to non-expert audiences
  • Event planning and logistics management
  • Team dynamics
  • Stakeholder and partner engagement
  • Pedagogical design – creating engaging and educational activities
  • Public speaking and interpersonal skills
