Free access prototyping spaces at EPFL are collaborative environments equipped with basic tools and resources where students can rapidely experiment and develop prototypes for their projects.

Accessible from 8am to 11:30pm after an online training
For ideation, meetings, computer assisted design, assembling parts, access basic tools such as a screwdriver.
You pay for consumables only

How to get access

01. Mandatory online training

if you want to:

Join a project: select your project in the list ant register to the online training.
Create a new project: if you have an idea of project, write to make@epfl.ch.

If you don't find your project in the list: please ask the supervisor to contact make@epfl.ch.

02. Supervisor validation

The supervisor of your project will be notified and will have to validate you as a student in the project.

03. Camipro access

24h after the supervisor validation you will have the camipro access to the following resources:

Envelop of the SPOT building at night (between 7:30 am to 11.30 pm) during the week days (on the weekends only for interdisciplinary projects)
Basic storage area – stock 1 DLLEL -1 54
Computer rooms and specific softwares – ELH 112 (Only for interdisciplinary projects).
Meeting rooms – DLLEL 1 10, 12 and 14 (Only for interdisciplinary projects).
(Only for some interdisciplinary projects) – Storage for bigger prototypes – stock 3 DLLEL -1 54

SPOT - general prototyping

Free access

The Student Prototyping and Outreach Tank is a makerspace open to all the bachelor and master students at EPFL. In the free access area you can use basic tools to assemble/tests your prototype. You also have access to IT ressources, a computer room, storage room (limited) and spaces to meet with your team and ideate. This space is one of the central contact points for prototyping at EPFL. Feel free to come by, explore, and ask any questions you may have. Competent and passionate coaches and student assistants will be happy to answer your questions and guide you in the development of your prototyping journey. And don’t forget: the sooner you ask questions in the prototyping process, the easier it will be to guide you in the right direction!

Meeting room for 5-10 people, equiped with a television.

Meeting room for 10-15 people, equipped with a camera set up for better experience if participants join remotely.

SPOT - conference room

Free access

The conference room of the SPOT can welcome up to 50 people. It is equiped with a camera system and microphones if participants join a conference remotely.

UNDER SUPERVISION WORKSHOPS

These workshops provide supervised access to more advanced prototyping tools and equipment, offering guidance and support for students to develop their projects safely and effectively.

SUB-CONTRACTED WORKSHOPS

The sub-contracted professional workshops at EPFL offer advanced facilities and expertise for producing complex parts, primarily catering to research laboratories, with a recommendation for bachelor and master students to first explore ideas at the SPOT and SKIL workshops before engaging with these advanced workshops.
